Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
January 18, 2006 – 7:37 amI think I have found a way to circumvent the voting problems. If someone can teach us all how to hack the voting system, we could post the instructions here and I wouldn’t have the voting problems any longer!! Actually that isn’t really hacking in this respect. At this point it is like Clint Eastwood said in a movie “they improvised, adapted and overcame”.
Still no word from the support technicians at Webtools after 12 hours, but I’m still holding my breath!

It’s obvious there are several people who have managed to gain a voting advantage one way or another.
The validity of this whole contest is in jeopardy, and that’s sad. I was pretty excited about making the finals at first, but then I realized the rules weren’t the same for everyone.
I hope you get the problems ironed out, but I don’t know if it will mean anything to the people involved or the people who visit your site in the future.
Good luck.

I informed Jim that my numbers took a dramatic upturn last night, when I noticed it. Now, the jump could have been legitimate, because it happened in the two hours immediately following a mention of my blog and the contest information on a local TV/Radio simulcast here. But it was such a jump, that it looked funny even to me, so I just told Jim to be aware of it, and that it might be happening other places. I do think some people found ways to vote more than once, maybe many more times. I haven’t ever been able to, nor has any of my family or friends in my town.

Remember everyone that the popularity vote is not really the main part of this contest – Yes, it is a part but actually no matter the number of votes, the difference between the first and second in which ever category is only two points… and the difference between first and third is only four points..
I am not saying it is not important – of course integrity of data is important but let’s get it in perspective..

Good point. I could have a 900-vote lead, and SJ will still whup up all over me when it comes to style and pizazz.

Heh. Like I told an “old-timer” blogger friend, Hey, I’m new. Give me this first year to get all silly over stuff like this, and then I’ll get all cynical and jaded as is proper!
I think my whole town reads me. I know my family does. My mom gave up trying to repeat vote after two days. That’s one reason you will not find any profanity on my blog! My mother was horrified enough when I related a conversation in which my husband referred to lighting farts…even though she laughed!
My town is pretty small, but the Arkansas blogging community is tight and supportive, which I find charming. Arkansas media in general is like that. We go nuts when one of our own does anything on a national level…see Jermain Taylor being honored as “Arkansan of the Year” right now.
And I think we should have a “Pimp My Blog” category, in which you get a new tricked-out blog from Dave at Blogography and a visit from a rapper. Lord knows I need education in the design department.
